How Classic Disney Movies Ruined My Generation

by Leila Dayne

The guys at Cracked.com hit the nail on the head with this one.

Disney movies these days feature strong leads (particularly females) and teach us to pursue our goals.

The older Disney movies?! Not so much. Sure they were entertaining but that’s about it.

(I can’t figure out how to embed the video…and I’m too busy eating cadburry eggs to delve into it at the moment. sorry loves.)

This isn’t the first time I’ve thought about this subject. Second City has some hilarious videos that explore the same ideas.

I Fucking Love Science

by Leila Dayne

Science is something very near and dear to my heart.

It’s always been a passion of mine and I wish I wouldn’t have allowed myself to get distracted in my younger years and let my focus slide.
The good thing now though is that I have so much information and knowledge readily available at my fingertips in the Internet so I can stuff my brain with knowledge in the free time that I find.
One of my favorite pages to follow on Facebook is “I Fucking Love Science”.
Filled daily with pictures, information, news and funny little anecdotes.
And I’m not alone in my love for this page. Over 4 million other people feel the same way that I do.
Last week, the administrator of the site announced they had finally joined Twitter and invited their followers to come follow them there as well.
And that’s where the adventure begins, it seems most people hadn’t taken the time to realize that the sites administrator…was a female.
Yes! A sassy, smart female scientist. I took the time to read the about info and do some digging so this was no shock to me. There was an outpouring of response and luckily the majority of it was positive. While shocked people though it was really cool that this very intelligent and humorous site was the creation of a woman.
I love it!!
Growing up we are, at times, taught to shy away from certain fields and dreams because of being females but luckily this stigma is beginning to change. Let’s shed any lingering ideas that remain and continue on this path of getting better.
Let’s keep moving forward ladies and continue to promote girls taking a bigger interest in the sciences!! I can’t wait for a world with more sassy and smart female scientists!!
So let’s get smart loves!!
